Located on an island in the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir, this museum houses the salvaged antiquities of the submerged Nagarjunakonda valley. It is built in the style of a Buddhist Vihara and preserves relics from one of the largest and most important Buddhist settlements in South India (2nd–3rd century CE).
The collection includes Palaeolithic and Neolithic tools, limestone carvings, and Buddhist sculptures from the Ikshvaku dynasty. It features ayaka-slabs, architectural components of stupas, and medieval-period artifacts.
The Holy Relics of Buddha: It houses the sacred bone relics (relics of the body) of Gautama Buddha recovered from the Mahachaitya. Also features the Mandhatu Jataka panels and 3rd-century inscriptions of the Ikshvaku kings.
