Established in 1911, this museum is currently housed in the Mumtaz Mahal within the Red Fort complex. It was founded to preserve and showcase antiquities recovered from the fort and its surrounding Mughal-era sites. The museum serves as a primary repository for the cultural and archaeological history of the Mughal dynasty in Delhi.
The collection includes Mughal-era paintings, ornate fabrics, royal carpets, and fine specimens of calligraphy. It also features a significant array of weaponry, including swords, shields, and daggers used during the medieval period and the 1857 uprising.
Notable for its collection of original farmaans (royal edicts) issued by Mughal Emperors Jahangir and Shah Jahan. It also houses rare 14th-century manuscripts, including a Quran and a copy of Firdausi’s Shah Nama.
