Inaugurated on April 10, 1990, the museum is located in the historical village of Sanghol (Uchha Pind). It was established to preserve and display artifacts excavated from the local Harappan and Buddhist sites. It serves as a key repository for Punjab's cultural heritage spanning several millennia.
The collection includes Harappan pottery, terracotta figurines, ancient coins, seals, and beads. It also houses Buddhist relics and structural remains from the Kushana and Gupta periods.
A distinctive collection of 117 carved stone slabs, including 69 pillars and 35 crossbars belonging to the Mathura School of Art (1st–2nd Century AD), excavated from a nearby Buddhist Stupa.
