Museum Introduction

Established in 1966, this museum is maintained by the Department of Anthropology at Dibrugarh University. It serves as a vital academic and research repository dedicated to the preservation of the material culture of the diverse indigenous communities of Northeast India.

General Collections

The collection includes traditional attire, ornaments, bamboo and cane artifacts, agricultural implements, and household tools used by various ethnic groups. It also features skeletal remains and replicas of prehistoric stone tools found in the region.

Unique Historical Collections

The museum houses a significant and rare collection of traditional headgear and weapons of the Naga and Wancho tribes, along with ethnographic material specifically related to the Ahom and Sonowal Kachari communities.
