Museum Introduction

Established in 1990 after being relocated from Shillong, this museum serves as the premier cultural repository for Arunachal Pradesh. It was inaugurated to preserve the distinct heritage of the state's diverse indigenous populations. The building itself is a modern architectural landmark in Itanagar designed to house extensive tribal archives.

General Collections

The collection includes ethnographic specimens such as traditional textiles, basketry, household implements, wood carvings, and weaponry. It also houses an archaeological wing containing stone tools and terracotta objects from various excavation sites.

Unique Historical Collections

The museum houses a significant collection of 14th-century bricks and artifacts excavated from the Ita Fort (the "Fort of Bricks") and 13th-century stone sculptures from Malinithan.
