Inaugurated on March 29, 2009, by the then Managing Director of Tata Steel, H.M. Nerurkar, the Jamshedpur Coin Museum is the only non-profit, private coin museum in Jharkhand. Located in the Ambagan area of Sakchi, it was established by the Coin Collectors Club with significant infrastructure support from Tata Steel. The museum building features a unique architectural design inspired by Roman and ancient middle-eastern styles.
The museum houses a vast collection of over 12,000 items, including coins, tokens, medals, and banknotes. The display spans human monetary history from primitive barter items like cowries to modern Indian and international currencies. It features dedicated sections for the coinage of various world powers, including the US Dollar, British Pound, Russian Ruble, and Japanese Yen.
Features a rare collection of Punch-marked coins from the Vedic and Mauryan eras, and a specialized gallery of Tisco (Tata Steel) tokens used by employees during the early 20th century. It also houses rare Gold Mohurs from the Mughal period and unique colonial-era copper "dump" coins.
