Inaugurated on May 27, 2014, by the then Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri Oommen Chandy, this museum is located at the Coir Board Complex in Kalavoor. It was established to showcase the rich heritage and technological evolution of the coir industry, often referred to as the "Golden Fiber" of Kerala, tracing its journey from a traditional cottage industry to a globally recognized sector.
The museum features a comprehensive display of the coir production process, including retting, fiber extraction, and spinning. It houses a diverse array of coir-based products ranging from traditional ropes and mats to modern industrial building materials and decorative handicrafts.
Features the "Coir Diamond Jubilee" exhibits documenting historical milestones since 1953. It also preserves early 19th-century portraits of James Darragh and Henry Smail, who founded the first coir factory in Alappuzha, marking the beginning of the organized industry.
