Inaugurated on January 25, 2016, by Vice Admiral S.P.S. Cheema, the INS Vikrant Memorial is located at a traffic island on K. Subash Marg, Mumbai. It was established following the scrapping of the legendary R11 aircraft carrier to serve as a permanent tribute to the "Mother" of the Indian Navy and her role in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
The memorial is a structural monument made from the scrapped metal of the original ship. It features a majestic sculpture representing the aircraft carrier, supplemented by commemorative plaques that detail the ship’s battle honors and service history.
The most unique aspect of this memorial is its physical composition—it is literally forged from the salvaged steel of the INS Vikrant (R11). It serves as a symbolic "return" of the ship to the Naval Dockyard area where she was berthed for decades.
