Established in 2002 at RK Beach, Visakhapatnam, the INS Kursura (S20) is a Soviet-built Kalvari-class diesel-electric submarine. It was the first of its kind in South Asia and remains one of the few submarine museums globally to be established on land after being decommissioned from active service in 2001.
The museum consists of the entire interior of the submarine, maintaining its original machinery, sonar systems, periscopes, and control panels. It features displays on the history of the Indian Navy's submarine arm and life at sea.
As one of the earliest submarines of the Indian Navy, it played a vital role in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, conducting patrols in the Arabian Sea. The museum preserves the actual torpedo tubes and the tight living quarters (bunks and galley) used by the crew.
