Opened in 2013, the Heritage Transport Museum is India's first comprehensive transport museum. Located in Taoru (near Gurgaon), Haryana, it is a world-class facility spanning 95,000 square feet. It was founded by collector Tarun Thakral to document the history and evolution of transportation in India, providing a colorful and interactive journey from the era of animal-driven carts to the age of aviation.
The museum houses over 2,500 curated objects across four floors. The collection includes vintage cars, commercial vehicles, maritime heritage, aviation, and rural transport. Uniquely, the museum also integrates contemporary Indian art, historical advertisements, and memorabilia (like old petrol pumps and railway saloon cars) into its thematic galleries.
Pre-Mechanized Gallery: Rare palanquins, bullock carts, and horse carriages from various Indian princely states. Automobile Gallery: Over 75 vintage and classic cars, including a 1924 Ford Model T and luxury cars used by Indian royalty. Rural & Indigenous Transport: Quirky, local inventions like the "Jugaad," "Chhakra," and "Phutphuti." Railway Saloon: A beautifully restored 1930s railway saloon car that visitors can actually step into.
