Museum Introduction

Established in October 2018 in Sector 16A, Chandigarh, this museum is housed within the Gandhi Smarak Bhawan. It is a dedicated space managed by the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi (Punjab, Haryana & Himachal Pradesh) to promote the life, philosophy, and historical journey of Mahatma Gandhi to the public.

General Collections

The museum holds nearly 200 rare photographs chronicling Gandhi’s life from his early years and South African tenure to the Salt March, the Partition of India, and his final days. It also houses original artifacts and replicas related to his daily activities and freedom struggle.

Unique Historical Collections

Prison Cell Replica: A reconstruction of the cell where Gandhi was confined in South Africa. Charkha Collection: Includes multiple models, with one originally used by Gandhi. Postal History: A world map displaying 160+ countries that have issued commemorative stamps in honor of Gandhi.
