Opened in 2016, the Erandwane Fire Museum—formally known as the Late Keshavrao Narayanrao Jagtap Fire Brigade Museum—is the first and only museum of its kind in Maharashtra. Located within the premises of the Erandwane Fire Station, this two-story facility was inspired by the London Fire Brigade Museum. It serves as a tribute to the bravery of firefighters and a educational hub for fire safety and history.
The museum showcases the evolution of firefighting in India through a comprehensive collection of equipment and records. The ground floor is dedicated to heavy machinery and historic fire engines, while the first floor houses a vast array of smaller artifacts, protective gear, and communicative equipment. Much of the documentation is presented in Marathi, detailing historical rescue operations and departmental milestones.
Rolls-Royce "Dennis" Fire Engine: The museum's centerpiece is a vintage 1956 Rolls-Royce fire truck that played a critical role during the 1961 Panshet Dam rescue operations. British Era Helmets: A chronological display of firefighter headgear, including original brass and leather helmets from the colonial period. Proximity Suits: specialized heat-reflective suits used by firefighters in high-temperature rescue scenarios.
