Established in 1913 by the Italian Jesuit Fr. Chiapi, the Aloyseum is a repository of natural history, local culture, and colonial-era technology. It was recently relocated to a modern space near the iconic St. Aloysius Chapel to improve public access. The museum documents the 140-year history of the institution and its impact on the Mangaluru region.
A vast array of curiosities including Roman coins, herbarium sheets, mineral specimens, Neolithic tools, and African artifacts. It also houses an extensive collection of vintage cameras, radios, gramophones, and maritime shells.
The museum features Mangaluru's first motor car (a 1906 De Dion-Bouton), the city's first electric generator (1930), and rare pieces of the Berlin Wall.
