Museum Introduction

Established on April 14, 1990, by the Symbiosis Society, the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Museum and Memorial is a prominent landmark on Senapati Bapat Road, Pune. The museum's architecture is uniquely designed in the shape of a Buddhist Stupa, reflecting Dr. Ambedkar's deep faith and his role in the revival of Buddhism in India. It was formally inaugurated on November 26, 1996, to coincide with Constitution Day.

General Collections

The museum houses a rich collection of personal effects donated by Dr. Ambedkar's wife, Maisaheb (Savita) Ambedkar. The exhibits follow a chronological order, tracing his journey from childhood and education to his pivotal role in drafting the Indian Constitution. The collection includes his vast personal library, traditional attire, and household items.

Unique Historical Collections

Sacred Urn: A revered vessel containing the holy ashes (Asthi) of Dr. Ambedkar. Bharat Ratna: The original medal and citation of India's highest civilian award, conferred upon him posthumously in 1990. The Drafting Table: The actual table and chair used by Dr. Ambedkar while drafting the Constitution of India. Original Manuscripts: A collection of his handwritten letters and early drafts of his seminal works.

Notes The museum premises feature a tree that is a direct descendant of the Bodhi Tree from Bodh Gaya, planted by Maisaheb Ambedkar. The museum also serves as a "Prerana Bhumi" (Land of Inspiration) for scholars and followers alike.
