Museum Introduction

Built between 1750 and 1869, the palace was the official seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty (the Nizams). Its name means "Four Palaces" (Chow = 4, Mahalla = Palace). It served as the venue for royal coronations and grand durbars.

The museum spans two courtyards housing a vast array of royal artifacts, including costumes, weaponry, crockery, and historical photographs dating back to the late 19th century.

Unique Historical Collections

1912 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost: A custom-made, canary yellow throne car. The Khilafat Clock: A 250-year-old mechanical clock that is still wound weekly by a specialized family of horologists. Quran Gallery: Features rare, hand-written Qurans, including one attributed to Emperor Aurangzeb.

Notes The architecture is a synthesis of Persian, Mughal, and European Neoclassical styles. The layout is modeled after the Shah’s Palace in Tehran, Iran. The palace is currently the property of the heirs of Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah.
