Set up in 1997 to mark the 50th anniversary of India's Independence, the museum documents the birth and evolution of Chandigarh. It is housed in a sculptural building inspired by Le Corbusier’s 1965 exhibition pavilion in Zurich, specifically intended to preserve the city's architectural legacy.
The collection includes rare blueprints, site maps, correspondence between administrators and architects, historical photographs of the construction phases, and original models of major civic buildings.
Pierre Jeanneret’s Furniture: The museum houses original furniture designed by Pierre Jeanneret for Chandigarh’s offices and residences. It also features a recreation of Pierre Jeanneret's living room, providing an intimate look at the architect's lifestyle and design philosophy.
