Inaugurated on October 3, 2021, by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu. The centre is housed in a restored Scottish-type wooden bungalow (built circa 1850) that served as the DC's residence until 2011. It sits on a hillock where Ahom General Lachit Barphukan planned the Battle of Saraighat in 1671.
The centre features themed galleries including the Art Lobby, Central Hall, Viewing Room, and Attic Room, focusing on life along the river, traditional weaves, and musical heritage.
Battle of Saraighat Heritage: The site itself is historic, featuring cannons used in the 1671 battle. Inside, unique displays include an installation of traditional fishing equipment on the ceiling and a collection of Majuli masks and panel paintings.
