Founded by artist Maendra Alvares, Ancestral Goa (popularly known as Big Foot) is a "lifestyle museum" that recreates a Goan village as it existed a hundred years ago. It blends history, art, and spirituality to provide an immersive look at the socio-economic life of early Goa.
The museum features life-sized statues depicting various traditional Goan occupations, such as bakers, fishermen, and farmers. It also houses an art gallery showcasing contemporary Goan artists and a specialized center for local handicrafts.
Mirabai Statue & Big Foot Legend: The museum is uniquely famous for a 14-meter laterite sculpture of Saint Mirabai, which holds a Limca Book Record as the largest of its kind in India. It also centers around a legendary "Big Foot" print on a rock, believed to be the footprint of a pious man named Mahadar.
